Hi there! And Welcome

Hi! I'm Melia Ann, I am a 22 year-old working from home. I live with my loving boyfriend, Justin. We are young, and we have done some crazy things in life, but now I'm here writing to you, taking you on our journey to becoming debt free and everything else in life that I love and care about. I have been kind of a jack-of-all-trades all of my life, I knit, crochet, bake, and garden, to name off a few of the things I enjoy doing.

I have become obsessed with finances recently and how budgets work, and what will work best for our life. Dave Ramsey has been someone I had listened to most of my life because my dad enjoyed listening to his talk radio show often. Now, as an adult, I have started listening to him and learning and understanding what his teachings about finances are.

I have made a few mistakes in my life, but who hasn't?

Both vehicles are owned outright, but, as of right now, both are not in running condition. Coming this Friday we will be ordering the parts we need for one of them. Thanks to Justin's dad for lending us his truck so that Justin can get back and forth to work while we get the money we need for one of our vehicles. We have rent-to-own agreements on our tv and our washer and dryer set. Justin has tools that he got through Matco because he is a mechanic and starting out we didn't have the money upfront for him to purchase them outright. We have a couple of outstanding debts from a vet and an emergency room visit. And, lastly, Justin's student loans. Everything totals out to around $26,000, it's a big number for us. We are prepared to tackle it all little by little.

Our financial goals right now are to fix our vehicles, get our emergency fund started, and begin taking out some of this debt, beginning with the smaller ones like Justin's tools, our rent-to-own purchases, and the smaller outstanding debt.

Our other goals this year are to get married and to raise our credit to purchase a house.

I hope that you will join me on my journey.

What to do when you are out of money and low on food....

Well, it's Tuesday... three more days until payday and you look in your fridge and cupboards and they are practically bare. What do you do? I'm in this exact situation right now. We scraped up what we needed to pay my landlord our rent money and put gas in our borrowed vehicle, there is literally $4 leftover after that. So what am I doing to make sure that Justin and I are fed this week? Well, for one, I'm very grateful that I always make sure that I keep my staples stocked up, and that I make chicken bone broth every week. Something else I do is take inventory of everything I have available to cook with: dried beans, jasmine rice, baking ingredients like flour and sugar, onions, potatoes, carrots, other veggies that are in season locally, canned tomatoes, and elbow macaroni noodles... I keep all this on hand to make sure that I can make food to keep us going. I make bread once a week to two weeks, roast a whole chicken or cut it up and make broth from the bones every w
